This is the site of the Optical Oceanography group
at Oregon State University.

Our research is focused on how light interacts with water and the constituents contained within the water. A few of the research topics that we are studying include the development of inversion algorithms to determine the Inherent Optical Properties (IOP) from remotely sensed reflectance measurements, modeling the influence of the sea surface on the underwater light field, and mechanisms that determine the vertical and horizontal distribution of optical properties.

Our efforts include numerical and theoretical modeling of the underwater light field, several measurement programs that provide data to test the models, and the development of new sensors.  Please use the links provided above to find out more about particular projects, facilities, and people in the Optical Oceanography group.
